Take An Autumn Nature Walk & Collect Items To Make Fun Crafts!
It's Time To Take An Autumn Nature Walk!
Today I spent a couple of hours just walking around my yard, enjoying the beautiful crisp Autumn weather and serving no purpose but to enjoy myself. That's reason enough to do it -but when I take one of these wonderful nature walks, I find so many interesting things!
There are pine trees of different varieties which shower the ground with many sizes and shapes of pine cones, which I can use for my Christmas decorations later on. The Black Walnut trees have provided a plentiful bounty of Black Walnuts, which keep me busy trying to give away! The Peppermint plants are still going crazy, and I can strip the leaves to dry for use in sachets, fragrance infusions, baking, homemade bath products, and lots of other uses.
It's a convenient time to do a little seed-saving, too. Lots of flowers and plants have produced seeds which may be collected at this time for planting next Spring. My pepper plants have yielded some lovely seeds to save, as have my hosta plants, hardy hibiscus and chrysanthemums.
The Oak trees are raining acorns everywhere. My large clan of black squirrels are busy burying as many as they can, but they can spare just a few for me for craft projects like an acorn picture frame.
The Catalpa tree has huge leaves nearly a foot long, which are beautiful when imprinted into concrete stepping stones.
One of my favorite things to collect in the Autumn are the blooms from my Hydrangea plants. I always pick a few to bring inside and leave some on the plants outside. When the flowers dry indoors in a vase, they retain their perfect shapes and are so delicately fragile and beautiful.
Yes, Autumn is all around us, and her bounty is here for the taking. Just be sure to get permission before collecting from your neighbors' yards!

Make a pretty dried flower arrangement! Collect flowers, tie firmly into a bouquet with a rubber band or twist tie, then wrap a pretty ribbon around and tie it. Hang upside down until thoroughly dried. Spray liberally with unscented hairspray to preserve blooms longer.
